The One Reminder We All Need

If there is one thing in business and life I think others should take away, it’s that it’s okay to laugh at yourself. It’s okay to learn from “mistakes”.

Maybe you sent an email you wish you hadn’t.

Maybe you didn’t leave a job as soon as you should have.

Maybe you turned down the opportunity that could’ve changed everything.

Maybe you’re in the entirely wrong career.

Maybe you just want to be the “new you”.

It happens. That’s life. You’re not alone.

I bet the person on the other side of that email/desk/phone has felt the same way at some point in their life.

Don’t let them fool you.

That’s the point of life. To learn. To grow. To become better.

The best leaders know this.

The most valuable thing you can do is share what you have learned. Don’t hide from it, afraid of what others may think.

If you haven’t failed, you haven’t tried.

Embrace it.

Get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Laugh at yourself. Laugh with others. But don’t laugh at others.

This is also what companies do. They see what others have done and try to replicate the good and stray from the bad.

It may not even be intentional but we all find ourselves saying “we need to do that” or “let’s make sure we don’t do that”.

We all have many lessons we feel ashamed of or do what we can to make sure it’s never brought up again.

But what if we could change the world for future generations, the mindset that they develop. What if sharing your uncomfortable moments could help others.

It’s simple. Yet hard.

Would you do it?
